Waste disposal work must not be stopped in Karachi, LG orders secy
The Sindh Regional Government Department has explained to the relevant authorities that garbage disposal work should not be stopped in Karachi, in particular, and throughout the province during locking COVID-19.
This was said during a meeting chaired by Sindh Regional Government Secretary Roshan Ali Shaikh via a video link on the problem of garbage disposal in the province during the COVID-19 emergency.
The secretary of the local government asked relevant officials at the meeting to continue the disposal of municipal waste from designated places for use as landfills for public safety.
He said officials convicted of negligence in this matter would be dealt with rigorously because they endangered public safety. He said the Sindh Regional Government Department, municipal support agencies and their staff had to work around the clock to do waste disposal work.
He said instructions had been given to the managing director of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board to do the work all the time to carry out waste disposal in the province.
LG’s secretary said deputy commissioners and city commissioners in various districts had been directed to take emergency action in their respective jurisdictions to carry out waste disposal work. He said the union committee, the district government, and the deputy commissioner must work together to carry out waste disposal work in their respective areas to protect public health.
He said it was the best decision of the government to provide compulsory municipal services for residents of the province without interruption during the COVID-19 emergency.
The Secretary of LG said the staff of the Sindh Regional Government Department along with the workers in municipal auxiliaries had done their best to provide compulsory citizenship services for residents of the province.
