I will write a letter to NEPRA today to begin an investigation on the issue of overpayment by K-Electric, said Sindh Governor Imran Ismail.

“If it is proven that the company has billed people more than they should without justifiable reasons, then I will make sure every penny K-Electric that is charged is returned,” he said. SAME TV program Naya Din on Monday.

The governor said that the federal government closely oversees the company’s operations and hopes that unscheduled power outages have ended after the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reform and Special Initiatives Asad Umar’s meeting with K-Electric and NEPRA officials on Saturday.

“We want to give companies a fair chance to improve and work for the people of Karachi,” Ismail said. “But this does not mean that we will let the people of Karachi suffer.”

He added that strict action would be taken against the company if an unplanned power outage occurred. “The prime minister is very serious in resolving the problems of the people of Karachi,” the governor said.

Speaking about K-Electric’s nationalization argument, he said that the decision to privatize the company was taken in a hurry because K-Electric was lazy.

Regarding the issue of the National Accountability Bureau investigation into PTI MPs in the Sindh Assembly, the governor said that the bureau was an independent department and was not at all influenced by the government or the prime minister.
