Responding to the problems of Karachi people who have been burdened with excessive bills by the EC, governor Sindh Imran Ismail has written a letter to the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to investigate this issue. Asking regulatory authorities to “thoroughly audit” the overpayment of a single Karachi electricity supplier, the governor has directed swift action.
“Every day, most people complain about EC authority because of several problems, one of which is excessive billing. Unfortunately, KE, the only electricity provider in the city of Karachi, has a clear monopolistic approach to consumers, “said the governor’s letter written on behalf of the chairman of NEPRA.
The governor also asked the chairman “to conduct a thorough audit of complaints filed against EC for excessive bills, and those that prove valid, will be returned immediately,” said a publication.
Ismail added that instead of giving help to consumers, KE advised complainants to pay bills, and to receive large amounts of bills was no less than a nightmare for ordinary people.
Karachi is currently lamenting its terrible electricity service supplier because the city is facing a long blackout without notice which ends with a very excessive bill.
