Dr Umer Adnan, who treats patients at the Lyari Karachi General Hospital, gave up on the coronavirus on Saturday, the Sindh health department said.
The health department said that doctors contracted the virus a few days ago and died of it today.
The brother of the doctor who died was also treated for COVID-19 in a private hospital.
The department said that the doctor’s wife and other acquaintances were also being tested for the virus.
It is said that so far in Sindh, 25 doctors have fallen victim to the corona virus.
Pakistan has seen a sharp increase in coronavirus infections among health workers, growing to more than 6,000 nationally from 5,000, according to national health ministry data from last week.
Data shows that around 70 health workers have succumbed to the virus in carrying out their duties – with most deaths recorded in Sindh.
Health workers are at the forefront of the country’s coronavirus outbreak and in the past have complained about the entry of patients in public hospitals and the lack of protective equipment to protect against viruses.
