LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said that the world was facing economic difficulties because of the COVID-19 outbreak but the Prime Minister Imran Khan determined to put the country on the road to economic development. He gave a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Quaid-e-Azam Business Park in the Office of the Chief Minister here on Saturday.
He said that there were only three special economic zones when the PTI government came to power. The government began working in 13 special economic zones in a very short period of time under the leadership of the Prime Minister Imran Khan, he added. The Chief Minister said that the federal government had issued notices for seven additional special economic zones.
The second special economic zone of the Punjab project “Quaid-e-Azam Business Park” has been launched today while the first special economic zone has begun in Faisalabad, the Chief Minister said. He revealed the government would soon launch the first special economic zone of South Punjab in Bahawalpur.
Usman Buzdar said the Quaid-e-Azam Business Park will cover an area of 1,536 hectares in addition to generating employment opportunities for more than 500,000 people. Accommodation facilities for industrial workers will be provided more than 200 hectares, CM added. He said that the Quaid e Azam Business Park project had gained great significance because of its proximity to the National Highway and Motorway.
He stated that 653 industrial units would be established in Quaid-e-Azam Business Park. He said that for the first time in history, a tax relief of Rs 56 billion had been given to the business community in Punjab in a coronavirus pandemic.
Small tax amounts have been avoided to create ease of doing business, he added.
He said the Punjab Small Industries Corporation has allocated Rs 12 billion to provide loans to young people, adding that under this scheme, loans of Rs 25,000 to Rs 5 million will be given to young people on easy terms.
He said that the Punjab’s second major irrigation project, the Jalalpur Canal Project has also been launched while work has also begun on the Great Thal Canal project in Punjab.
CM said that the Kas Umar Khan Canal project would also begin soon while Khanki Barrage had also been inaugurated.
He said that Punjab was on the road to progress according to the Prime Minister’s vision and guidance. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister Imran Khan“Transparency has been ensured at all levels,” he added.
Several other major projects will also be launched in Punjab. According to the Prime Minister’s vision, guidelines and policies, economic activities will be promoted and people will prosper, CM concluded.
