Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on Monday formed a five-member inquiry committee on fire incidents at three factories on July 19 at the Export Processing Zone Authority.

The notice governing the committee was issued from the Board of Commissioners on Monday.

Deputy commissioner Malir will lead the committee. The chief of the KMC firefighters, Malir SSP, the director of the Malir SBCA zone and EPZA representatives were members.

The terms of reference say it will determine the cause of the fire. The Committee will propose measures to avoid such incidents in the future. This can also co-opt any technical expert if needed.

The request will be completed in two weeks.

On Sunday, fires broke out in three factories, AFUSO Papers & Packing Industry, Friends Services and SAFAI ONYX Marble Handy Craft Pvt Ltd, located at EPZA.
