Opposition parties took to the streets in cities across Pakistan to pressure the government amid soaring inflation in the country.

After the call to protest was given by the Opposition, protesters took to the streets in Karachi, Larkana, Lahore, Sukkur, Mardan, Jacobabad, Mohmand, Ziarat, Mingora and other cities in the country.

People chanted slogans against the government and rising inflation. Traffic on the Quetta-Chaman highway remained suspended for several hours because of the rally.

In Karachi, demonstrations started near the Empress Market area, so roads around it had to be sealed.

In Lahore, PML-N members protest against inflation at Jain Mandir Chowk while carrying electricity bills and discount bread (bread) in their hands. Similarly, party members in Muzaffargarh started a protest march from Jamia’s Central Mosque to Qanwan Chowk. Members of Jamaat-e-Islami also protested in front of the Muzaffargarh Press Club where they chanted slogans against inflation.

Qari Saifullah Saifi from PML-N led the protest in Murree. When the protesters reached the city’s Mall Road, many tourists also joined in.

In Mardan, protesters began gathering in the town of Kachehri Chowk, while in Gilgit, members of the PML-N, as well as JUI, participated in the protest in Ittihad Chowk.

PML-N announces protest in Punjab

The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and President of the PML-N Shahbaz Sharif appealed to the masses and asked them to join the protests against the growing inflation in the country.

He stated that giving more time to the government meant that the people of the country had to face more problems, more inflation, more unemployment.

“The economic condition of the country and its people will not improve unless we get rid of this tyrannical government,” said Shahbaz, as he directed the leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) party to ensure cooperation with civic and business organizations and people’s associations. and appealed to people to join national protests against inflation.

Earlier today, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said that a demonstration would be held at Jain Mandir Chowk Lahore after Friday prayers. Punjab’s former law minister invited workers, traders, lawyers and other wings to support the Opposition protests.

“People will get help only when this incompetent and corrupt government is sent packing,” Sanaullah said, urging people to get out of their homes and join.

Similarly, speaking at a rally of protesters, PML-N leader Saad Rafique said that the PTI had “destroyed an advanced Pakistan.”

PPP holds protests in Karachi

Separately, the PPP also staged a protest in Karachi — led by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah — against rising inflation in the country. The protest was held in Karachi’s Malir district.

CM Shah, speaking to the protestors, criticized the current government and said: “Wheat and sugar thieves must save the poor masses. Only Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari can free the poor from inflation.”
