ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi will lead a consultative meeting with clerics on Saturday (today) regarding preventative measures to be taken against the coronavirus pandemic while conducting religious rituals in the holy Ramadan, ARY News reported on Saturday.
President Alvi will hold a meeting with clerics today to discuss preventative measures in the month of Ramadan to stem the spread of coronavirus.
The President will negotiate with religious scholars via video links, who will attend consultations from the Governor’s House.
President Alvi will discuss government steps with religious leaders to make them confident.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan in a meeting with the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri had directed the minister to design a series of preventive measures to stem the spread of the corona virus during the Ramadan congregation.
Prime Minister Khan is expected to meet with clerics next week.
Qadri had previously met spiritual chair holders (Mashaikh) from various holy sites in connection with meeting with the president.
Mashaikh while expressing his support for the government’s efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic has assured their presence at the meeting.
However, they have asked permission to perform religious rituals after adopting all necessary precautions.
Prime Minister Imran Khan recently said that the government had requested cooperation from the clerics to overcome the pandemic and he would soon meet them.
The prime minister stressed the need to devise a strategy for the month of Ramadan after holding consultations with the ulema.
