Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon police chief has given directions to his subordinates to address the law and order situation in the city.
He said on Monday steps were being taken to ensure rule and rule of law in the city under any circumstances. He said there was a ban on displaying weapons in public places, while action would also be taken against people in civilian clothes who owned weapons.
He said the ban also applies to citizens of countries who have a gun license and laws have been adopted that prohibit the display of weapons. Karachi police, this week, will launch a proper campaign against the display of weapons, said Memon, adding that people who have hired official armed guards for their own safety should carry weapons but
refrain from their public display.
The city’s top police officer said police would take indiscriminate action against any citizen or security guard who would indulge in public display of weapons, and an FIR would be brought against them. Police have taken such steps to secure people’s lives and property and to maintain law and order in the city, he said. Street crime and target killings are on the rise in Karachi for economic and other reasons.
