ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday that the government was taking all possible steps to equip doctors and medical staff – frontline forces against the Corona pandemic – with protective gear needed by priority.
He chaired a meeting held here to review the Coronavirus situation in the country.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister Asad Umar, Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Muhammad Hammad Azhar, Financial Advisor Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Special Assistant to PM Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Dr. Zafar Mirza, Dr. Zeedar Mirza, Dr. Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal and senior officers. NDMA Chair Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal and Special Assistant for Health Dr. Zafar Mirza briefed the prime minister on the current situation of Coronavirus and the steps taken to treat people affected by Coronavirus.
The prime minister was informed that currently 3300 ventilators are available in 136 hospitals throughout the country, and NDMA is in direct contact with hospital administration to ensure the provision of protection kits to doctors and other medical workers.
The NDMA Chair told participants that with 49,500 protection kits provided for various hospitals in all provinces, the provision of more protection kits for hospitals would be completed within one or two days.
The prime minister was told that NDMA had no shortage of protective equipment and face masks and their target was to ensure the availability of the required number of ventilators whose steps were taken based on an emergency.
Participants were told that special attention was given to increasing the Coronavirus testing capacity on a daily basis and in this case steps were taken as a priority.
In addition, steps are also taken to ensure the availability of technical staff and their training, further information. Minister of Planning Asad Umar explained the meeting about the progress of development projects and the continuity of economic activities.
The prime minister when speaking about the continuity of economic activity amid the situation arising from the Coronavirus outbreak with a special focus on providing assistance to the poor after the comprehensive incentive package announced by him for the construction industry, directed that the outcome of this Resurgence of the sector must reach the poor and oppressed especially laborers.
