LAHORE: Federal Minister for Railroad Sheikh Rasheed on Sunday hopes that Pakistan will finally overcome the coronavirus pandemic through unity, discipline and national awareness, reports ARY News.

Addressing the ration distribution ceremony for porters at the Lahore train station, Sheikh Rashid said that the situation related to the coronavirus pandemic was controlled in Pakistan.

He said that the Pakistan Railroad had donated Rs50.8 million in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s corona aid fund.

“Each train porter will get Rs 12,000 from the Ehsaas Money Program,” Rasheed said, adding that Army Commander General Qamar Javed Bajwa had donated Rs 3,000 bags to him for distribution among coolies in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

Sheikh Rasheed further said that PR was making a strategy to send tickets to passengers at their homes in Karachi and Lahore on the reopening of train services.

Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that the forensic report on the increase in sugar prices could be delayed by 10 days. He claimed that violators of article 144 were released in Balochistan and Punjab at his request. “This is my request to the Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah to release the 144 offenders like other provinces did.”

Commenting on the decision to resume railroad operations, the minister said that they would make a decision after the closure on April 28.
