They asked their government to close all zoos if there was no money to feed the animals in cages.

In the video clip, a lion looks very weak at a zoo in Karachi. It looks like the lion has not been fed for the past few days. Sharing the video on Twitter, Quatrina Hussain, Country Director CDRS Benji Project for Animal Welfare, Pakistan, wrote, “If we treat animals like this, we have no right to run a zoo.” Karachi Zoo cannot afford food suppliers. The animals were already in a pathetic condition.

‘No money to feed animals’
Hussain further wrote, ‘My heart is broken. Let’s close all the zoos.’ Wildlife expert Iram Azim Farooq said in his post, ‘Karachi Zoo must close immediately. The government has no shame. Do we treat caged animals like this? Karachi Zoo failed to pay food suppliers. Seeing this broke my heart. Please raise your voice. According to Pakistani channel ARY News, the contractor in charge of food supply has posted a notice on the gate of the Karachi Zoo that it will not be able to supply food, as the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) has not approved it.

For the past 11 months, she has had no money to pay bills, feed animals. The zoo administration also confirmed the situation and said that they gave food grains to the animals, but now only the rations are left in the warehouse for a few days. According to the report, many animals including the ‘Pride’ lion at the zoo have become emaciated due to lack of proper food. Due to lack of proper facilities including health, most animals die at Karachi Zoo. In one such case, the second of two lions illegally brought to Karachi in 2017 died mysteriously.

4 elephants are seriously ill due to lack of food
There are also four elephants at the zoo, who have been seriously ill over the past few months due to lack of food. After a petition was filed by wildlife experts, the Sindh High Court ordered the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to immediately contact a German veterinary expert to check the elephant’s health. Dr. Amir Khalil of Four Paws, an international animal welfare organization, said, “When we came in 2016, the situation was very bad. We are sick of seeing things get worse now. We then submitted the mandatory reports to the responsible authorities, the mayor of Islamabad and the wildlife department, especially with regard to lions and elephants. Our recommendations were not implemented.
