KARACHI: A total of 69 export-oriented units related mainly to textiles and other sectors have been permitted to continue operations in Karachi after fulfilling the standard operating procedures (SoP) set by the Sindh government.
Chairperson of the Pakistan Apparel Forum Jawed Bilwani said about 17 export-oriented factories / manufacturing units were permitted to operate on April 17, followed by 52 units the following day.
An Interior Ministry order said records received from Manpower and Human Resources were examined and various companies were found to meet the criteria according to the SoPs namely the verification of export orders by the Pakistan Trade Development Authority (TDAP), which was carried out by the CEO / owner to ensure arrangements in their locations according to COVID-19 prevention criteria and a list of workers / staff / management who will be present at the location during operation.
Bilwani said TDAP had verified 418 applications from export units and 349 balance companies would give approval to the Minister of the Interior before starting operations. He said more and more exporters were proposing to start their units.
