PM Imran said doctors and medical staff acted as the vanguard to stop the spread of this deadly disease

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday expressed the government’s determination to provide protective equipment for health professionals based on priorities in their struggle against the corona pandemic.

He chaired a high-level review meeting on the situation after the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers including Asad Umar, Khusro Bakhtiar, Hammad Azhar, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Finance and Revenue Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, PM Special Assistant for Health Dr. Zafar Mirza, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of National Security, Dr. Moeed Yousuf, Chair of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal and other senior officials.

During the meeting, NDMA chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal and PM’s Special Assistant to Health Dr Zafar Mirza told the prime minister about the Coronavirus’ latest situation and arrangements regarding the care of Corona victims.

It was informed during the briefing that 3300 ventilators were available in 136 hospitals throughout the country, adding that NDMA had direct contact with hospital administration to ensure timely delivery of safety equipment for doctors and paramedics.

The prime minister was also informed that 49,500 protective kits had been sent to various provincial hospitals and delivery of more kits would be completed in the next few days.

The NDMA Chair said that there was no shortage of safety equipment and masks, adding that our goal was to ensure the availability of the number of ventilators needed where emergency measures were taking place.

Participants were told that special attention was given to increasing the Coronavirus testing capacity on a daily basis and in this case steps were taken as a priority.

In addition, steps are also taken to ensure the availability of technical staff and their training, further information.

Minister of Planning Asad Umar explained the meeting about the progress of development projects and the continuity of economic activities.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Imran Khan said that doctors and medical staff acted as pioneers to stop the spread of this deadly disease.

Imran Khan points out that the benefits of a comprehensive package that has been announced for the construction sector must reach the lower strata of society, especially workers.

The prime minister said funding for the Public Sector Development Program should be used for projects related to small and medium industries.
