The government is watching the economy, said CM Usman Buzdar
LAHORE: Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said the government was closely watching the economic conditions that emerged after the pandemic and decisions on the ease or tight restrictions in various regions were made based on daily reports.
He stated this during a media briefing in the Primary and Secondary Health Department committee room. Answering questions from the media people, the chief minister stated that the BSL-level III laboratory would soon function at the division level. These laboratories are almost complete in Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Rawalpindi and Rs620 million have been released, he added. He said the Coronavirus test capacity would be increased to 5,000 every day in the next two weeks and added that field hospitals would soon be functioning in Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Jhelum. He mentioned that meetings with Chinese doctors were bearing fruit and they suggested that maintaining social distance was the best security from Coronavirus.
The CM stated that each of Rs 12,000 would be given to 2.5 million eligible people under the Imdad Insaf Package and the Ehsaas Program. Forced distribution through PDMA has been put in place to ensure that financial assistance is provided to everyone who is appropriate and that benefactors should contact PDMA for this purpose, he explained. He told us that packages containing necessary materials were distributed in 25,000 families in need in metropolitan cities. He added that relief items would be distributed in Lahore in collaboration with the DC office and NGOs. For another question, he said that the affected doctor at DG Khan would be fully treated adding that the hoarder would not be forgiven. Fines of more than Rs 2 billion have been charged for hoarding and price increases and the deputy commissioner and administrative officials are fully active in the province, he concluded.
The Secretary of Primary & Secondary Health Services told us that close associates of corona patients were also tracked while the total number of corona patients in the province was 1684. Of the 2,110 residents tracked, 147 had tested positive. There are 8,000 diagnostic kits and more will be provided, he added.
Test lab: On Monday Usman Buzdar visited the PCR Central Lab (Polymerase Chain Reaction), which was established by the Department of Primary & Secondary Health (P & SHD) on Birdwood Road for Coronavirus testing.
He inspected various parts of the province’s third-largest security-level lab while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and asking staff about testing procedures. He appreciated the establishment of laboratories and praised the services provided by the department.
P & SHD Secretary Muhammad Usman told CM about testing procedures. He said that biologists work day and night in the lab. Coronavirus test samples are sent to the laboratory via a cold chain transportation system and the results are sent back to the relevant hospital within 6 to 7 hours. He said that more than 3,000 Coronavirus tests had been carried out, adding that 2,000 tests would be carried out in the laboratory every day after expansion. Meanwhile, more than 3,100 tests are conducted throughout Punjab every day, he added. Provincial Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid, Punjab Minister of Information & Culture Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan, Information Secretary and others were present outside the lab.
