Islamabad [Pakistan]November 28 (ANI): Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Saturday slammed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s “heartless government” for firing more than 4,500 Pakistan Steel Mill (PSM) employees and vowing to re-instate them after his party is in power.
Bhutto said in his tweet, “The callous government is sacking 4,500 Pakistani Steelworkers. The PPP will return everyone back to work.”
“This historic industrial asset land belongs to the Sindh people. We will not let PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) escape this economic assassination. Sack Imran, not a worker, “he added.
According to a Geo News report, PSM fired 4,544 employees, including division and assistant managers, who belonged to the 2,3 and 4 payroll groups.
Previously, the Minister of Industry and Production Hammad Azhar had announced the government’s decision to privatize PSM because it was burdening the state treasury.
Geo News quoted his statement as saying that PSM employees were out of work for the last few years and now they will get a financial package of around Rs 2.3 million per employee as compensation. (ANI)
