Advisor for P.M. Youth Affairs said the majority who had registered for volunteer groups were students and social workers
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday issued directives to immediately activate Corona Relief Tiger Troops at the provincial level after the total number of volunteer registrations assisting the relief effort exceeded 750,000 people.
During the meeting between Khan and Counsel for P.M. on Youth Affairs Usman Dar, the two leaders discussed the operational requirements of the troops. The prime minister expressed satisfaction with the progress in mobilizing troops to the front lines to provide assistance to the poor, who have borne the burden of the economic impact of locking caused by the novel coronavirus.
According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, P.M. also directed Dar to make the total number of registrations publicly available through the official government portal COVID-19. Overall calculations, including provincial descriptions, are available here: http://crt.covid.gov.pk.
Dar, during the meeting, told Khan that the majority of people who had registered for the Corona Tiger Relief Force so far were students and social workers. In addition, he added, doctors, political workers, engineers, teachers, lawyers, journalists, retired army officers and people from the corporate sector have also sought to help with relief efforts.
According to the latest available information, 763,268 people have registered to join the army: 508,827 from Punjab; 115,273 from Sindh; 105,537 of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa; 11,294 from Islamabad; 10,030 from Balochistan; 3,986 from Gilgit-Baltistan; and 8,502 from Pakistan-run Kashmir.
Appreciating the figures, the prime minister praised the enthusiasm shown by the youth, adding that he hoped they would show their national enthusiasm in this way to help the country get out of the current difficult situation. The Corona Relief Tiger Force will soon be activated at the provincial and district levels, Khan said, as he directed Dar to continue updating him on troop statistics.
Prime Minister Khan officially announced the Corona Relief Tiger Force on April 1, at which point registration for voluntary organizations began through the Pakistan Government Citizen Portal application. Registration is set to continue until April 10.
According to the prime minister, the Corona Relief Tiger Force will work with the civil administration and the Army to curb the spread of coronavirus by distributing food to every poor person placed under locking, and raising awareness about coronavirus and preventative measures.
