The Punjab Minister quarantined himself after returning Pakistan from the United States | Instant News

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Higher Education and Information Technology Council, Raja Yasir Humayun, has quarantined himself after returning Pakistan from the United States (US), ARY News reported on Tuesday.

Raja Yasir Humayun went into exile after returning home today and quarantined himself to a private hotel in Lahore. The minister was trapped in the United States for 1.5 months due to the suspension of flight operations following the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Humayun and Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had traveled together to the US on an official visit, but the science minister returned home before the suspension of flight operations.

Earlier in the day, it emerged that the number of citizens who were ready to go home consistently increased every day and around 63,000 Pakistanis have registered with us so far.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zulfiqar Bukhari and SAPM at the Division of National Security and Strategic Policy Planning Moeed Yusuf asked Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to discuss the repatriation of foreign nationals.

Special assistants to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Zulfiqar Bukhari and Moeed Yusuf, have met with the foreign minister where they exchanged views on Pakistan’s ongoing repatriation process amid the coronavirus crisis.

FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the third repatriation phase was successfully continued because more than 12,000 citizens had been brought back to Pakistan from various countries.

“The number of citizens who are ready to go home increases consistently every day and around 63,000 Pakistanis have registered themselves with us so far.”

The foreign minister said that the federal government had planned to bring home 7,000 Pakistanis every week during the third phase. The capacity to ensure the return of safe citizens has increased with provincial cooperation, Qureshi said.

He added that the application of standard operating procedures (SOP) was continued at all active airports in the country to contain the spread of the corona virus.

The foreign minister, however, urged to adopt additional steps to contain COVID-19 given the increasing number of locally transmitted cases. The federal government is also making maximum efforts to overcome the pandemic economic disaster.
