Karachi police sealed textile factories for violating a coronavirus locking order
KARACHI: Police said on Tuesday that they had sealed two textile factories in a metropolis for violating coronavirus locking instructions following an operation led by Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Shallwani.
Senior police inspector for Malir, Syed Muhammad Ali Raza, said the operation was carried out at two facilities owned by Yunus Textile Mills Limited and Alkaram Textile Mills Pvt. Ltd. After the raid, the owners, as well as high administrative officials, were arrested, he added.
Commissioner Shallwani then ordered the two factories to be closed, said Raza, adding that the factory owner and administration officers were released after they submitted written guarantees that they would not violate any locking orders in the future.
The police official added that Alkaram had broken the lock 10 days ago too and an official case was filed against their administration. However, after getting a guarantee, they have reopened their facilities.
However, the two factories now remain sealed as long as the locking continues, Raza underlines.
Sindh extended the lock until April 14
The Sindh government on April 3 extended the locking to April 14, issuing a series of new orders and guidelines to encourage social distance and prevent the spread of the corona virus.
According to the notice, all schools, colleges, universities, madrassas and education centers must be closed until April 14. As a continuation of previous orders, shopping centers, theaters, wedding halls, showrooms, banquets, and hotels throughout the province will also be closed remain closed.
Temples and other sacred sites will also remain closed while public transportation between cities and between cities will remain suspended (except for food and important items).
The Ministry of Home Affairs said, in accordance with previously announced rules, that no more than five people (mosque staff) would be allowed to pray in congregation in mosques. For funeral and burial rights, only close family members are permitted to take part after notifying the local SHO in advance.
