A shop owner was shot dead for offering resistance during a mugging offer in the city’s Lighthouse area on Monday.
According to police, the incident took place at a shoe shop located in Chappal Gali within the jurisdiction of the Risala police station. The shopkeeper, identified as 40-year-old Danish Mian, was injured after he was shot. He was transferred to the Civil Hospital, Karachi, where he was
succumbing to the wound during treatment.
Police said armed motorcyclists entered the victim’s shop and stole Rs1.5 million in cash. One of them shot the shopkeeper as he put up a fight. The attackers managed to escape after robbing the shop. The deceased was a resident of the Kaniz Fatima Society.
CCTV footage of the incident shared widely on social media showed three gunmen arriving at the shop. Two of them entered the shop and one remained outside. Business actors condemned the incident and demanded law enforcement officials to arrest the suspect. All the Cities of Tajir Ittehad said such incidents were increasing day by day and police failed to stop them.
Market shop owners also closed their shops and staged protests after the incident. They also gave the government 72 hours to catch the perpetrators. Police said they had registered the case and also obtained CCTV footage.
More mugging offers
A security guard and another were injured for offering resistance to offers of mugging in Karachi. Azizabad police said 40-year-old security guard Khan, Zarkhuman’s son, was shot and wounded when he refused an offer of mugging in the Yasinabad area.
The victim was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medical treatment. A case has been registered and the investigation is continuing. Separately, 30-year-old Fakharuddin was injured when he fought a mugging attempt at the Industrial Zone of the Gabol City Buffer Zone. She was transported to ASH for medical treatment. Case has been registered.
