Sugar, wheat crisis: PM’s biggest test, Sheikh Rashid said
RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Railroad Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Tuesday the ball is now in federal government court and that it is Prime Minister Imran Khan’s biggest test of what action he will take against those responsible for the sugar and flour crisis.
Speaking with media people here, he said the investigative report issued by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) about Prime Minister Imran Khan’s directives was a major achievement of the PTI government. He rejected the impression that there were now two groups in the government after the investigation report was published.
Referring to a federal cabinet reshuffle, Sheikh Rashid said the captain was only repositioning his troops. He said the FIA investigation report on the sugar and flour crisis was released prematurely and argued that it should be issued on April 25.
The railroad minister said anyone involved in the sugar and wheat crisis should be exemplary. Sheikh also claimed that he first raised the issue of the wheat and sugar crisis at the Economic Coordination Council (ECC) and cabinet meeting.
He said Asad Umar did not provide subsidies to anyone and added that Jahangir Tareen had a warm relationship with Prime Minister Imran Khan and would remain so. He said the country had several powerful families and businessmen doing politics.
“The main player playing as the captain changes the position of the fielders according to country conditions,” he said, adding that the captain can change the fielding at any time. The minister said the sugar and flour crisis had ruled out a new corona virus. “Politics in Pakistan will go smoothly after Ramadan,” he estimated.
