ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday that Islamabad emphasized reducing violence and ending ongoing political tensions in Afghanistan, insisting that they support a prosperous Afghanistan, at peace with themselves and their neighbors.
The statement added: “Pakistan has consistently underlined the importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan, which we consider very necessary for peace and stability in the region and beyond.”
The statement further added that the US-Taliban peace agreement signed in February 2020 was a significant step forward, creating historic opportunities for steps towards intra-Afghan negotiations.
“We believe that the pursuit of a sustained reduction in violence by all relevant parties is very important in advancing the goals of peace in Afghanistan,” the statement said, adding that “the unprecedented challenges posed by Covid-19 and the arrival of the holy month. Further Ramzan underlined the importance of creating a conducive environment. “
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry also added that Pakistan also wanted to underline the importance of political reconciliation among all Afghan parties and stakeholders. “Inclusive political dispensation will indeed help strengthen the efforts needed by the Afghan nation at this critical time to effectively face the challenges it faces.”
“For its part, Pakistan will continue to support a peaceful, stable, united, democratic and prosperous Afghanistan, at peace with itself and its neighbors,” the statement concluded.
