ISLAMABAD: The government is doing its best to ease the burden of rising prices on the poor, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday.
He chaired a meeting on providing direct subsidies to poor and poor families about the purchase of essential commodities including foodstuffs.

“Providing assistance to the poor is our responsibility,” Prime Minister Khan repeated. “We are fully aware of this responsibility and will do our best to fulfill it.” He emphasized that the government is prioritizing an effective and transparent subsidy system.
During the meeting, the prime minister was given a detailed explanation of the proposed Ehsaas Food Stamp Program.
Special Assistant for Poverty Reduction, Dr. Sania Nishtar informed at the meeting that through this program direct subsidies will be given to the poor for the purchase of basic necessities. He said the subsidies would be provided in the most transparent way.
The Prime Minister praised the proposed program and directed the relevant authorities to finalize the mechanisms and statistics on the proposed scheme so that it can be launched at the earliest.
