Islamabad: In the beginning, a young Hindu Pakistani was the first person from a minority community to join Pakistan Air Force.

Rahul Dev has been recruited as a General Duty Officer, Pakistani Air Force (PAF) said in a tweet.

Dev is from the Tharparkar district in Sindh Province.

Sharing a photo of the young man, PAF was recently tweeted, “Good news during the tense # COVID19 situation. Thar sways again … Congratulations #RahulDev from the very remote village of Tharparkar has been chosen as the GD Pilot in #PAF.”

Although Dev’s exact age is unknown, those who are appointed at PAF at their level are often around 20.

Pakistan’s official radio on Wednesday said “for the first time in Pakistani history” that a young Hindu had been recruited as a general duty pilot officer at PAF.

The Express Tribune in a report published on Wednesday said induction showed that the PAF had broken barriers.

Last year, Kainat Junaid became the first woman from Khyber-Pakthunkhwa province to be selected for combat pilot training.

Junaid not only won the top position in PAF testing for General Duty Pilots, but also became the first female fighter pilot to serve the country with his father.

His father Ahmed Junaid is the Squadron Leader at PAF.
