Defense News | Starting Friday, the DD weather forecast will send daily reminders to Pakistan | Instant News

The government-run broadcaster, Doordarshan will begin to include weather forecasts for Kashmir occupied by Pakistan and the Northern Territory starting Friday, a move designed to deliver a daily message to Islamabad that it is illegally holding on to these territories. A senior government official told Hindustan Times that the Doordarshan National channel, DD News, All India Radio and Kashir had been ordered to include these regions in their daily weather bulletins along with other places in the country. The Doordarshan channel in Kashmir is broadcast in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Doordarshan weather bulletin will have forecasts for Mirpur and Muzaffarabad in Occupied Kashmir and Gilgit in the Northern Territory.

“This step will also be a reminder to the Imran Khan government and some of its supporters that India will not allow Islamabad to take any steps to legitimize illegal occupation,” said a senior government official.

The decision coincided with New Delhi’s loud protests this week on the orders of Pakistan’s high court governing the formation of an interim government in Gilgit-Baltistan to hold new elections.

India claims the entire state of former Jammu and Kashmir, including the Gilgit-Baltistan region, which was granted almost provincial status by the Pakistani government in 2009.

In January 2019, Pakistan’s high court ruled that its power extended to “Gilgit-Baltistan” which provoked sharp protests from New Delhi, which stated “what is called ‘Gilgit-Baltistan’, has, is and will remain an integral part of India” .

Last week, Pakistan’s Supreme Court went further and allowed the government to change the Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018 Government to form an interim government in the region to hold new elections. The order was issued in response to a petition submitted by the Imran Khan government.

On May 4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a demark, a formal diplomatic record, on a senior Pakistani diplomat stationed in the national capital.

New Delhi said that both Islamabad and its courts did not have locus standi in areas that were illegally and forcibly occupied by him.

“India completely rejects such actions and continues efforts to bring about material change in Pakistan which occupies the Jammu and Kashmir region of India. Instead Pakistan must immediately clear all areas under its illegal occupation, “wrote the written protest.
