LAHORE: Pakistan-Nawaz Muslim League Information Secretary (PML-N) Marriyum Aurangzeb has called for the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the “massive Indian drug import scandal”, according to a statement issued on Sunday.
“A transparent investigation is needed to improve responsibility for the corruption of billions of rupees,” Aurangzeb said.
While the coronavirus pandemic has gripped the country strongly, PML-N leaders blame Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is also the federal health minister, for the deterioration of the public health sector due to a massive failure to run government affairs.
“During the two years of his reign, Imran Niazi has completely destroyed the health sector like other institutions in the country,” the PML-N leader said.
Aurangzeb claims that hospital management in Islamabad is in a severe condition where doctors, nurses and paramedics are carrying out work amid a coronavirus pandemic without mandatory protective equipment. “The biggest hospital in Islamabad is functioning on an ad-hoc basis with temporary arrangements,” he said.
Referring to the Supreme Court’s order to return the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council which has been replaced by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government with the Pakistan Medical Commission, PML-N’s information secretary said the prime minister had not acted on a court order to revive the PMDC which was an insult to the court .
The PML-N leader noted that the National Institute of Drug Rehabilitation (NIRM) and the Pakistan Drug Regulatory Agency (DRAP) functioned without permanent heads. Besides that the position of director of public health is also vacant.
Speaking about the government’s previous health projects, he said, “The PTI government has destroyed 20 health projects that were initiated during the PML-N administration only because of the bias and prejudice of the prime minister. However, Imran Khan claims credit for the initiation of the Insaf Health Card which is a Health Card scheme initiated by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. “
