KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit, in collaboration with intelligence agencies, has arrested three well-known suspects from the city during two separate meetings.
According to Senior Police Inspector (SSP) Irfan Bahadur, two trained terrorists from Afghanistan were arrested on the instructions of the federal intelligence agency.
The SSP said that weapons and other material were found from the possession of the suspects.
The suspects, Nabi Gul and Mohammad Aqeel, claimed to have targeted assassinations of two Intelligence Bureau officers on Burns Road in 2008.
The two suspects also claimed to have committed dozens of crimes, including murder, throughout the city.
Another Lyari gangster suspect was arrested
According to SIU Bahadur’s SSP, the unit carried out another intelligence-based operation, capturing the suspect sought by the Lyari war gang suspect.
The suspect has several cases registered against him at various police stations in the city, said the police official. He added that the police found his weapons and ammunition illegally.
The suspect, identified as Shehzad alias Chottu, claimed to be part of more than 40 murders.
Shehzad is alleged to have participated in the targeted assassination of members of the Baba Ladla group, at the direction of Uzair faction leader Jan Baloch.
The police said that further investigations were being carried out and it was hoped that more arrests would be carried out based on information taken from the detained suspects.
