KARACHI: Number of Karachi police officers who have died corona virus on Tuesday it rose to five when other officials surrendered to the deadly COVID-19 infection.
Apart from those who lost their lives due to the virus, around 121 police officers throughout the province have been treated in various hospitals and isolation centers or in solitary confinement in their respective homes.
According to the authorities, the final sub-inspector (SI) was placed in one of the Ehsaas Cash Program collection centers in the city of Razzaqabad where he dealt with hundreds of people who were eligible to come to receive Rs12,000 under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s aid package.
While on duty, police officers contracted the deadly corona virus and were transferred to the hospital after the test results were positive. Since the last few days, reports from medical facilities have shown that his condition continues to deteriorate and he died Tuesday night.
The day before, another police officer died of the corona virus.
Resources Geo News that five other Sindh Police employees were diagnosed positively affected by the corona virus on Tuesday.
The total number of police officers who tested positive for the virus has increased to 157, of whom five have died, 121 are active cases, and 31 have recovered.
The pandemic has most severely affected police officers in Karachi compared to other cities. At the time of reporting, 12,610 of the nearly 33,000 total cases of Pakistani corona virus were in Sindh, with Punjab slightly behind in 11,869 cases; 734 people in total have died from the virus.
