According to the latest data by the Pakistan Statistics Bureau (PBS), for first nine months from the current fiscal year * Pakistan’s leather manufacturing exports grew by 11.78% over the same period a year earlier. During the period July-March 2019-2020, the country exported goods in this segment with a total value of 401,026 million US dollars compared to exports worth 358,722 million US dollars registered in the first nine months of the previous fiscal year.

The same source shows that exports tanned skin in the first nine months of this year total revenues of 151.377 million US dollars, compared to 187.934 million US dollars in the same period the previous year (a decrease of 19.47%).

In the first 3 quarters of this year, 12.7 million pairs were sent abroad, yielding export income 104,351 million US dollars. This translates to an increase in volume of 40.89% and a value of 15.86%. In the same period of export leather shoes representing 84.55% of the total footwear export value. Overseas sales of this type of footwear increased by 9.57% in volume and its value by 11.29%, from the same period in 2018. Growth also occurred in all categories of canvas footwear and other footwear.

Pakistan’s Footwear Industry

According to the 2019 World Footwear Yearbook (AVAILABLE HERE), in 2018, Pakistan’s international trade reversed the trend of the past few years with growing exports and declining imports. Pakistan is 8th the biggest footwear manufacturer with 411 million couples and a 1.7% world share. With a population of 201 million people, Pakistan too 8th biggest consumer of footwear. The industry mainly focuses on the internal market, only exporting footwear 115 million US dollars (48th the biggest exporter in 2018). Pakistan imports most of the textile footwear from China and most exports of leather footwear.
