LAHORE – The percentage of positive cases dropped to one digit for the first time in the last six days because only 301 of the 4,568 suspected patients (6.59 pc) were found to be carrying coronavirus on Tuesday. Over the past six days, a total of 28, 531 tests were performed which detected 3,449 COVID-19 patients. During this period, the percentage of positive cases drifted from 10.44 pc to 18.39 pc which dropped to 6.59 pc on Tuesday.
New cases of coronavirus increased to 11,869 with the addition of 301 new infections in the province. A total of 14 more COVID-19 patients died in the province on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 211.
Of a total of 211 deaths in Punjab to date, 78 have occurred in Lahore, 37 in Multan, 36 in Rawalpindi, 21 in Gujranwala, 14 in Faisalabad, five in Rahim Yar Khan, four in Sargodha, three in Gujrat, respectively two in Bahawalpur and Toba Tek Singh and respectively in Attock, Hafizabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Nankana Sahib, Sialkot, Layyah, Sheikhupura and Narowal.
Of the total 11,869 COVID-19 patients in Punjab so far, 1,926 are Tableeghi Jamaat preachers, 768 pilgrims, returning from Iran, 86 prisoners in nine districts and 9,089 citizens who have largely fallen prey to local transmission.
Of the collective number of ordinary citizens, detainees and those isolated in quarantine facilities in Punjab, the highest number of 5,705 cases have been confirmed in Lahore alone, which has become the center of the coronavirus virus.
In addition, 893 patients were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Multan, 710 in Gujranwala, 657 in Rawalpindi, 482 in Gujrat, 444 in Faisalabad, 421 in Sialkot, 298 in Sargodha, 270 in DG Khan, 176 in Muzafargarh, 151 in Rahim Yar Khan, 143 in Jhelum, 125 in Lodhran, 124 in Hafizabad, 120 in Bahawalpur, 104 in Vehari, 93 in Bhakkar, 91 in Kasur, 77 respectively in Narowal and Sheikhupura, 74 in Mandi Bahauddin, 73 in Khushab, 62 in Attock, 59 in Jhang, 51 in Nankana Sahib, 47 each in Bahawalnagar and Layyah, 40 in Chiniot, 37 in Pakpattan, 33 in Sahiwal and Rajanpur, 32 in Okara, 31 in Mianwali, 30 in Toba Tek Singh, 23 in Khanewal and 16 in Chakwal.
Of the total confirmed patients, 4,452 have returned home after recovery while 7,206 are still being treated in various hospitals and quarantine facilities throughout the province. The overall recovery ratio of COVID-19 patients is 39 percent.
With regard to the severity of the spread of the corona virus in various districts in Punjab, the health authorities have divided 36 districts in Punjab into three zones, which places, at least, 10 districts with a recovery ratio of less than 40 percent in the red zone, 14 districts with more than 40 percent recovery in the blue zone and 12 districts with more than 70 percent recovery in the green zone.
The capital of Punjab has been among 10 districts in the red zone with a patient recovery ratio of less than 40 percent.
In the red zone, 1,545 patients recovered from a total of 5,705 with a recovery rate of 28% in Lahore, 14 patients recovered from 37 with a recovery rate of 38% in Pakpattan, 45 patients recovered from 124 with a recovery rate of 37% in Hafizabad, 26 patients recovered from 77 with a recovery rate of 35% in Sheikhupura, 11 patients recovered from 32 with a recovery rate of 34% in Okara, 125 patients recovered from 444 with a recovery rate of 31% in Faisalabad, 118 patients recovered from 421 with a recovery rate of 28% in Sialkot, 6 patients recovered from 30 with a recovery rate of 27% at TT Singh, 10 patients recovered from 40 with a recovery rate of 25% in Chiniot, and 132 patients recovered from 710 with a recovery rate of 22% in Gujranwala.
In the blue zone, 20 patients have recovered from a total of 31 with a recovery rate of 65% in Mianwali, 77 patients recovered from 125 with a recovery rate of 62% in Lodhran, 46 patients recovered from 77 with a recovery rate of 61% in Narowal, 67 patients recovered from 120 with a recovery rate of 58% in Bahawalpur, 167 patients recovered from 298 with a recovery rate of 57% in Sargodha, 49 patients recovered from 91 with a recovery rate of 54% in Mattresses, 12 patients recovered from 23 with a recovery rate of 52% in Khanewal, 272 patients recovered from 657 with a recovery rate of 47% in Rawalpindi, 28 patients recovered from 62 with a recovery rate of 47% in Attock, 7 patients recovered from 16 with a recovery rate of 44% in Chakwal, 201 patients recovered from 482 with a recovery rate of 42% in Gujrat, 320 patients recovered from 893 with a recovery rate of 40% in Multan, and 29 patients recovered from 73 with a recovery rate of 40% in Khushab.
In the green zone, 41 patients have recovered from a total of 47 with 87% recovery rate in Bahawalnagar, 48 patients recovered from 59 with 83% recovery rate in Jhang, 77 patients recovered from 93 with a recovery rate of 83% in Bhakkar, 61 patients recovered from 74 with a recovery rate of 82% in Mandi Bahauddin, 41 patients recovered from 51 with a recovery rate of 82% in Nankana Sahib, 116 patients recovered from 143 with an recovery rate of 81% in Jhelum, 117 patients recovered from 151 with an recovery rate of 81% in Rahim Yar Khan, 217 patients recovered from 270 with an 80% recovery rate in Dera Ghazi Khan, 25 patients recovered from 33 with a 79% recovery rate in Sahiwal, 36 patients recovered from 47 with a 79% recovery rate in Layyah, 75 patients recovered from 104 with rates 72% recovery in Vehari, and 23 patients recovering from 33 with a 70% recovery rate in Rajanpur.
