Siraj asked the government to provide subsidies to masters who were not feudal-poor – Newspapers | Instant News

PESHAWAR: Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Sirajul Haq said, instead of giving billions of rupees subsidies to feudal rulers, the government should give it to poor people for medicines, health care, and edible items.

Mr Siraj told reporters here on Wednesday that the federal government did not have to wait for the arrival of foreign aid and had to immediately release a Rs 1,200 billion aid package for the people.

He said consumers have paid Rs85 billion over the past few months because sugar and Rs76 billion of that amount went into the “sugar tiger” bag instead of the treasurer.

The JI leader said the government must change the mindset and focus on the development of the poor.

He said millions of daily wage workers became unemployed due to closures across the country. “Daily bets require the full attention of the government, which should distribute cash assistance to them,” he said.

Siraj visited the Police Service Hospital, where an isolation center had been established for coronavirus patients.

Medical inspector Dr. Fakheruddin explained to him about the center and facilities provided for coronavirus patients.

He said the Al-Khidmat Foundation, the wing of the Jamaat humanitarian aid-charity, provided food for patients who were hospitalized.

The JI leader said his party had served people during the Covid-19 outbreak ignoring their caste, creed and color.

“Aid packages are given to decent people at their doorstep,” he said. Siraj complained that people had not yet benefited from the aid package announced by the government.

He said his party and the Al-Khidmat Foundation would continue to support people in trouble.

The JI leader praised volunteers, health workers, and law enforcement agency personnel for frontline troops in the fight against the corona virus in the country.

He said doctors had given lives while treating people affected by the virus.

Mr Siraj urged people to follow World Health Organization guidelines to prevent Covid-19. He advocated social distance and personal hygiene.

Meanwhile, a statement said Senator Siraj inaugurated the Corona Special Care Unit at Al-Khidmat Hospital in Peshawar.
