Incidents of street crime and vehicle theft have increased in the city despite stringent security measures adopted by police to combat the new corona virus.

in a recent incident, two armed men riding motorbikes grabbed cars, cellphones and wallets from a Sector 11-B resident in North Karachi, Karachi Central District. CCTV footage from the incident showed that the suspects who did not wear helmets and masks first looted cellphones and wallets from residents and then grabbed his car at gunpoint before fleeing the scene. Even though the police have obtained CCTV footage, they failed to track down and catch the culprit.

In another incident, a citizen, Farrukh Ali, lost his motorcycle, also in the Karachi Central District. According to Ali, the unique motorcycle registration number 70cc KIT-3537 was parked in the parking lot of his apartment, Al-Mustafa Residence, Rumah Sendiri, Blok 21 within the boundaries of the Federal Industrial Area B police station.

Residents of the region complain that incidents of street crime and vehicle theft have increased in areas where about half a dozen residents have so far lost cars, motorcycles, cellphones, tape and vehicle batteries in recent days.

Residents complain that the police are busy applying lockdown, they fail to curb the threat of crime.
