LAHORE: City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed said there was a total shutdown due to coronavirus in the city on Friday (today) and strong action would be taken against violators of standard operating procedures (SOP).
He said according to the Punjab government SOP, all markets, markets, shops, gatherings and community movements, all types of transportation, including pillion pillion, would also be banned. He said checkpoints had been set up in various regions.
CCPO calls on people to stay in their homes to stay safe. He ordered police officers to take steps to ensure social distance and SOP implementation during Friday prayers and direct the Dolphin Squad troops and the Police Response Unit to increase patrols around the mosque.
The CCPO visited Karbala Gamay Shah also to examine security measures in which Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Hammad Abid and SSP Operations Faisal Shehzad briefed him on security and the procession route to Youm-i-Ali.
SSP Shehzad said all routes to Karbala Gamay Shah, Mochi Gate, Lower Mall and Bhatti Gate had been closed.
The CTO said all types of public movements were restricted from the Chowk Katchery to the Darbar Data and that the public had been given alternative routes.
Later, the Army and Police Division of the Pakistani City Division jointly conducted a flag march, which was led by the SP Toheedur Rehman investigation.
The March flag starts from Minar-i-Pakistan and culminates in Karbala Gamay Shah.
