ISLAMABAD (APP) – Minister of Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz said on Monday the resolution of the problem of journalists and media workers is the top priority of the Pakistani government Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) because it strongly believes in the fundamental rights of freedom of expression. .
In a meeting with the office manager of the Pakistan Newspaper Editor (CPNE) via video link, the minister said the payment of extraordinary contributions to media houses is starting today, which will provide assistance to the media industry and workers. Payment of contributions will be linked to payment of salaries to journalists and media workers by the media house.
The government plans to develop a mechanism so that media workers will not face such problems in the future by paying their dues on time, he added.
The minister said the government’s advertising quota for regional newspapers was very important because many prominent journalists had emerged from small newspapers.
The Minister said transparency will be ensured in the affairs of the Circulation Audit Bureau (ABC). He also assured that the news agency’s problems would be solved.
He said another meeting with CPNE would be held after Eid al-Fitr to decide issues with consensus. During the meeting, the CPNE delegation briefed the Minister of Information on issues related to the media industry.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Akbar Durrani and Principal Information Principal Shaheera Shahid also attended the meeting.
The video conference was attended by CPNE President Arif Nizami, Secretary General Dr. Jabbar Khattak, and vice presidents Ikram Sehgal and SK Niazi.
