New Delhi[[[[India]May 21 (ANI): To face a common enemy, India has proposed a coordinated response to deal with Desert Grasshopper along the border to Pakistan and also offers to facilitate the supply of insecticides Malathion to Islamabad for the same thing.
India have suggested to Pakistan that the two countries must coordinate locust control operations along the border. India also offer to supply pesticide Malathion for Iran to do Desert Grasshopper controlling operations in the provinces of Sistan-Balochistan and South Khorasan, the source said.
While Tehran has responded positively to New Delhi’s offer, Pakistan haven’t made a decision. Sources say it “remains to be seen if Pakistan will rise above his petty approach. “
Desert grasshopper is a species of grasshopper, a short horned grasshopper that huddles. They are known to devour everything in their path, presenting an unprecedented threat to the food supply and livelihoods of millions of people.
Corresponding Food and Agriculture United Nations Organization (FAO) reports, at Iran, adult grasshoppers along the southwest coast plains, and breeding generations are taking place in the southeast where hatching takes place on the coast and inland Sistan-Baluchistan.
In Pakistan, an adult group is migrating to India the border of the breeding area in Baluchistan where hopper groups are present as well as at PakistanPunjab and Pakistan occupied Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Kashmir.
In India, more adult groups and smaller groups have arrived Pakistan in recent weeks and moved east to Rajasthan, reaching Jodhpur.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare is leading the grasshopper control effort in the country. It also spearheaded initiatives to encourage regional cooperation. There is a consensus that Desert Grasshopper can pose major challenges in 2020. The Ministry has begun efforts on this issue.

“Six border meetings between Locust officers led by Plant Protection Advisers from India and Pakistan held every year (June to November) both at Munabao (India side) and or in Khokhropar (Pakistan side) to exchange information about the situation of the locusts of the two countries, “they added.
In addition, regional cooperation in controlling grasshoppers was encouraged by FAO. India participate in FAO meetings and sessions Desert Grasshopper Control Committee, participates and arranges FAO Control Commission meetings Desert Grasshopper in Southwest Asia; and participate in the Joint Survey Program with Pakistan and Iran organized by FAO.
