The coronavirus novel has claimed the lives of three media people in Pakistan and infected 156 others, according to a report released by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ)

The report released on Wednesday highlighted that cameramen and photojournalists have been the biggest sufferers since the pandemic struck the country, Dawn news reported.

The report, compiled by Zulfiqar Ali Mehto who heads the PFUJ COVID-19 rescue committee, stated that of the three journalists killed, one was from Multan and two from Sukkur.

Sixty-nine journalists returned from the hospital after recovery, while others were in quarantine and their conditions were free from danger.

Lahore has reported the highest number of cases in 84, followed by Rawalpindi and Islamabad with 24, Quetta 17, Peshawar 12, Karachi nine, Sukkur six, Multan five and Gujranwala and Hyderabad two each.

Mehto said PFUJ had collected data from its units spread across the country and Azad Kashmir.

“One infected media person in Pakistan is occupying Kashmir but he is recovering now, even though there are no victims of the corona virus among reporters in the Gilgit-Baltistan region,” Mehto said.

This development occurred because the country so far has registered a total of 47,394 COVID-19 cases, with 1,010 deaths.
