Government officials were killed at the Eid al-Fitr celebrations in North Waziristan on May 24 | Instant News

On Sunday, May 24, an unknown attacker killed three people in an attack on the Eid celebration in North Waziristan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa District). Gunmen riding two motorbikes reportedly opened fire in the village Hassu Khel close Mir Ali City, killing two government officials and one other person. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Increased security presence is expected because security forces conduct investigations.

Individuals in North Waziristan, and Pakistan more generally, are advised to remain vigilant at all times and report suspicious goods or activities to the relevant authorities. Because of the high threat of terrorism, as well as kidnapping and sectarian violence, some Western governments advise their citizens to reconsider travel to the country as foreign nationals, and Westerners, in particular, can be directly targeted.
