Private hospitals once again asked the Sindh government ‘not to infect’ all Karachi hospitals with coronavirus
Expressing strong reservations at the direction of the Sindh government to order 20 percent of beds in private hospitals for coronavirus patients, the Association of Private Hospitals and Clinics (PHCA) urged the health department on Thursday “not to infect” all private hospitals in Karachi and instead recognized coronavirus patients to the Indus Hospital, Ojha Campus of the Dow Health Sciences University (DUHS), Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) and the field isolation center established at the Expo Center.
“Today, at a meeting with Sindh’s health minister, private hospital owners have suggested that instead of asking all private hospitals to allocate 20 percent of their beds for the isolation and care of coronavirus patients, the government should send these patients to three hospitals who have been infected with the corona virus, “an association administrator told The News.
Representatives of private hospital owners, including Dr. Salman Faridi from the Liaquat National Hospital, Dr. Asim Hussain from Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, Dr. Abdul Bari from Indus Hospital, Dr. Sadia Rizvi from the South City Hospital and Dr. Zerkais Ankelsaria, met with the Minister of Health provinces Dr Azra Pechuho and Dr. Aijaz Ahmed Khanzada, chief technical advisors to the health secretary, and advised authorities to first use 2,200 beds in three hospitals and the Center’s isolation center and then seek help from the private health sector.
During the meeting, private hospital owners strongly opposed the fact that PHCA President Dr Junaid Ali Shah was not informed of the meeting, said the association’s official, adding that the health minister acknowledged that it was a mistake and agreed to make it part of the Core Committee on Private Hospitals .
The owner confirmed that there were already 1,000 beds available at the field isolation center at the Karachi Expo Center for coronavirrus patients, while hospitals that had treated patients, including the Ojha University Campus of Dow, AKUH and Indus Hospital, could also accommodate around 1,200 patients because they received large financial support from the government. It is recommended that all hospitals should not be infected and must be submitted to patients from other diseases that require emergency treatment.
“After the 2,200 beds at Indus Hospital, Dow International, AKU and the field isolation center are filled, we will provide a list of hospitals that are prioritized to become corona hospitals on condition that these hospitals will be given the necessary safety. equipment and medicines by the Sindh government, “added the PHCA office clerk.
The owner of a private hospital also suggested that the government use some of its own hospitals, including facilities with 500 newly built beds and several hospitals from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), for coronavirus patients and to leave private hospitals for public patients.
During the meeting, it was subsequently decided that the command and control center would be established by the government under the command of the person who was the focus of the corona virus, Dr. Bari, and the private hospital would provide consultants in special areas that would be available for the command and control center.
“It was decided that this core committee would meet regularly and Dr. Abdul Bari would update the committee on the coronavirus situation with statistics.” Owners of private hospitals said that they assured the health department that they would provide equipment and workforce support as needed once the Sindh government faced a bed shortage. “The health minister assured us of the full cooperation and we stand with the Sindh government in its strategy and efforts,” the PHCA office official said.
It was decided that the portal in the health department will be created by people who focus on coronavirus, Dr. Abdul Bari and a complete government manual on COVID-19 Prevention & Treatment will be prepared in three areas – prevention and control management, diagnosis and treatment, and nursing & services consultation.
