Pakistan is bound by China to build a dam project that has been for years | Instant News

BEIJING – Forty years after it was first envisioned, Pakistan was once again bound by China to build a multibillion-dollar Diamer-Bhasha dam, Gwadar Pro reported on Saturday. The report stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan had issued directives to immediately begin construction work on the dam. Wapda awarded contracts worth around $ 5.8 billion to joint ventures from Power China and the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) for the construction of the diversion system, the main dam and Access Bridge for the 4500MW dam, and the Tangir 21MW hydropower plant. project.

The Power China has long been involved in the core business of water and electricity and has established itself as a leading company in the hydropower industry both in China and abroad. Especially after the “Belt and Road Initiative”, Power China has actively participated in several major projects abroad, such as Pakistan’s Qasim coal-fired power plant. This company deals with thermal power and electricity networks. It has also worked for manufacturing and leasing equipment. More than 17,000 Chinese workers are expected to land in the rarely inhabited Bashar region in the Khyber Pakhtunkwa Province (KPK). These workers will stay for nearly eight years until the dam construction is completed. On the other hand, FWO is a military engineering organization, and one of the main science and technology commanders of the Pakistani Army.
