LAHORE: Punjab Assembly session is being held at a hotel in Lahore for fear of the corona virus.
Sessions called by the Chairperson of the Punjab Assembly Pervaiz Elahi will begin on 5 June and continue until 29 June.
Sources at the assembly secretariat today told ARY News that the provincial legislative session at the hotel will cost an additional Rs20 million. Typically, the cost per session session for taxpayers is around Rs 10 million, including the salaries and benefits of assembly members.
Additional costs estimated at Rs 20 million include expenses incurred for hotel and food rental. A spokesman for the Punjab Assembly said the secretariat would release details of the assembly session fee at the hotel tomorrow.
The reason behind holding a session at the hotel is to ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP), including social distance protocols, for the MPA, which is impossible to implement given the size of the meeting room.
Previously, it was decided to hold a session at Aiwan-e-Iqbal but the decision was taken back due to lack of facilities needed for members of the provincial legislature.
It was stated here that the annual budget for fiscal year 2020-21 will be presented in this session.
