LAHORE: Punjab authorities on Tuesday issued directives to all administrative secretaries, commissioners, deputy commissioners and district cops (DPOs) to implement ban on smoking within the province, ARY Information reported.
In line with particulars, the Providers and Basic Administration Division issued a round with the instructions to make sure strict implementation of related provisions of Prohibition of Smoking and Safety of Non-People who smoke Well being Ordinance 2002.
All of the officers have been directed that ban on smoking be enforced in any respect public locations, academic institutes and public autos.
The round says boards stating “Smoking is An Offence” be displayed in any respect public locations. Sale and storage of cigarettes or any smoking substance inside 50 meters from any academic institute is prohibited.
No individual shall promote cigarettes or any tobacco product to any one who is under the age of eighteen years. In case of violation, penalties of positive and imprisonment will be imposed.
It’s pertinent to notice right here tha the Lahore Excessive Courtroom on Monday directed the Punjab authorities to strictly implement anti-smoking legislation at public locations and take motion in opposition to the violators.
Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi was listening to a petition moved by Advocate Azhar Siddique questioning non-implementation of “Prohibition of Smoking and Safety of Non-People who smoke Well being Ordinance 2002”.
Justice Qureshi directed the Punjab chief secretary to carry a direct assembly on the matter and subject essential directions to the departments involved for the implementation of the anti-smoking legislation.
