R Kelly controversy: Christina Aguilera praises Lady Gaga for ‘doing the right thing’ by speaking out against musician

Christina Aguilera has praised Lady Gaga‘s choice to take away her 2013 duet with R Kelly, “Do What U Need”, from streaming providers. 

Aguilera, who recorded a model of the tune with Gaga and carried out it along with her throughout The Voice finale in 2013, wrote on Instagram: “Cool to see the model of this tune I did with @ladygaga on the charts once more — this can be a reminder of girls sticking collectively— and never letting a person take possession of an awesome tune/ second… And if something the message of this tune stays that though you’ll have had my physique, you’ll by no means have my coronary heart, my voice my life or my thoughts.”

Sharing images from their efficiency on The Voice, she added: “Being a survivor of previous predators myself, these strains spoke to me, which is why I did the tune. Kelly is the subject of a new documentary that details the multiple allegations that he sexually abused women and underage girls. He has persistently and vehemently denied the allegations over the previous 20 years. 

In a press release on Twitter posted on 10 January, Gaga apologised for the collaboration and wrote: “I stand behind these ladies 1000%, consider them, know they’re struggling and in ache, and really feel strongly that their voices needs to be heard and brought significantly.”
