The Rugby Championship in 2020 can be held while the Super Rugby season is in progress to ensure both occur, advises SANZAAR CEO Andy Marinos.
This year’s Southern Hemisphere tournament between Argentina, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand will be held between August 8 and September 27.
The Super Rugby domestic campaign is scheduled to finish with the final in June, but the coronavirus pandemic forced the season to be postponed.
When organizers tried to ensure that both competitions could be held in 2020, Marinos had proposed the idea that they run in parallel, despite the shortage of the Super Rugby team because they had to submit international players during the Test match window.
“Can you possibly play Rugby Championship at the same time as domestic competition?” Marinos said through NewsHub.
“It’s not trying to throw one for the other, is it how do we get a reasonable solution in what might be a limited time frame?
“Logic would suggest if there is an ability to make what we have seen with NRL around the bubble, if it’s all in one location it seems a little easier.
“At this point in time, we would be foolish to put anything aside. We truly insist and have the intention to send a complete package.”
