BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Matt Haarms and Indiana basketball fans have something in common on Monday night – no one wants a 7-foot-3 Purdue transfer to play in Indiana.
Haarms told ESPN that he would wait for news from more than two dozen schools, but Indiana was not one of them. Minnesota is the only Top Ten school on the list.
And when I started talking about the column in Indiana about Haarms on the NCAA transfer portal, the Indiana fan base gave me NO!
Until 11 pm ET Monday, more than 600 people responded in comments on Facebook and Twitter and only 14 percent or people even wanted to consider the possibility of Haarms helping Hoosiers next year.
86 percent is also quite empathetic. Most were not interested in going there with big men from Amsterdam who had a serious love / hate relationship with Indiana fans for three years in West Lafayette.
Haarms told ESPN Jeff Borzillo that “I need a change of scenery to take my game to the next level,” he said in a tweet sent by Borzello.
He also had good words about three years at Purdue, and left without regret.
“(I) have nothing but positive things to say about Purdue, but I feel it’s time to move on,” Haarms told Borzello in the tweet.
