Former 49ers owner, Eddie DeBartolo Jr. and his wife, Candy, have donated $ 2.65 million to Florida hospitals to help fight the corona virus.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Tuesday, that the money given to the Tampa General Hospital was part of an overall donation of $ 7.65 million. The money has been donated over a five-month period, according to the newspaper.

$ 2.65 million will be used, the newspaper said, to “develop a long-term COVID-19 unit dedicated to diagnosing and treating hospital patients.”

The newspaper said four employees at the hospital had tested positive for the corona virus.

DeBartolo had 49ers from 1977 to 1998 when he was involved in a corruption case in Louisiana and was forced to give up team control. His sister, Denise York, took control and her son – Jed, niece to Eddie – was the 49th CEO.
