Taulia Tagovailoa might not follow in the footsteps of his brother who set a record.
The second student quarterback is the third string behind his brother, picking the first round of the Old, in Alabama last season before entering the transfer portal on Friday, a source told ESPN.
Taulia, a former four-star candidate, appeared in five matches, completing nine of 12 passes for 100 yards. When Tua is absent because of an injury, he is more experienced Mac Jones who takes over as a starter.
Jones, a redshirt student, started the last three matches of the season, including a 35-16 victory over Michigan at the Vrbo Citrus Bowl, where he made three touchdowns and no interception.
Jones will be a favorite to replace Tua, who is a former Heisman Trophy runner-up and led Alabama to the national championship as a freshman before being selected by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the NFL draft last month.
Alabama also added prospective new students and five-star Bryce Young to the list as initial registrants. The California native was chosen as the 2019 Maxwell Football Club National The best offensive player of the year.
