Ferguson is seen by manager Dave Roberts as a reliever, but his flexibility tends to be less clear about his eventual big league role. The 23-year-old is mainly a underage starter from 2016-17 and has aspirations to start at the big league level in the long run. However, he has been out of the bullpen in all but five of his 75 career appearances in the majors, and the Dodgers already have their initial rotation in place for the upcoming season. Of course, there is much that is unknown about what the 2020 campaign will be – including the possibility of an expanded roster and fewer days off – so Ferguson’s ability to do short or long tasks can prove invaluable.
