There is much talk about the future of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While the money-rich tournament was suspended indefinitely, the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) was wary following an Indian government decision to allow the reopening of sports complexes and stadiums. Rajasthan Royals COOO Jake Lush McCrum said that he was confident that the 2020 IPL would take place later this year while adding they were preparing for the September-November window.
McCrum stated that all franchises kept in touch with the Indian council while adding that BCCI worked very hard to find a solution.
“There is a lot of news in the media, but what I can say based on our conversation with BCCI is, they are working very hard to find solutions. They are agile associations and can make it happen. We are confident that the IPL will occur this year,” McCrum said during ‘ Royal Fans Meet ‘.
“We are preparing for the September-November window. But nothing has been resolved until now given the situation. The great thing about BCCI is that they have arranged a tournament in a very short time in South Africa in 2009, they can do it again,” he added. .
BCCI will be looking to find an alternative window for conducting the 2020 IPL and much will depend on the future of the ICC T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held by Australia. However, speculation is rife that the showpiece tournament may be postponed, opening a window for IPL 2020.
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held from 18 October to 15 November.
