As coronaviruses continue to spread throughout the world, we may be months – at least – from sports leagues in North America returning to action. With that in mind, the NBA must turn to alternative forms of competition. League held a HORSE competition consisting of currents and traces The NBA and WNBA players.between players, and now they too
The complete list of participants for the HORSE competition is as follows: Thunder keep Chris Paul, Eagle keep Trae Young, Jazz keep Mike Conley Jr. Bulls keep Zach LaVine, Allie Quigley from Chicago Sky, retired NBA player Paul Pierce and Chauncey Billiups, and the newly selected Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall from the Famer Tamika Catchings.
The participants will take part in a single elimination contest. Each player will take their picture from their own gymnasium and at home. While holding a contest from a distance is necessary, it might have prevented some star players from participating – for example, Giannis Antetokounmpo recently he said in his home.
Here are some more details about the contest, which will start on Sunday, April 12 at 7 pm. ET, from the NBA:
NBA HORSE Challenge Presented by State Farm participants will be divided into two groups consisting of four, with the winners of the first two matches at each group meeting in the semifinals. The winners from each group will move on to the championship round. ESPN will present four quarter-final matches on Sunday. The semifinals and championship matches will air on Thursday, April 16, starting at 9 pm. ET.
Throwing a coin at the start of each game will determine who shoots first, with more senior players calling heads or tails. Players must describe each shot attempt, determine the type of score they want to make before taking a shot, such as a bank shot or swish. Dunking is prohibited. The first player in each match who accumulates the letter “H-O-R-S-E” after failing to match five shots is eliminated.
And this is the look of the quarterfinal battle:
- Trae Young vs. Chauncey Billups
- Tamika Catchings vs. Mike Conley Jr.
- Zach LaVine vs Paul Pierce
- Chris Paul vs Allie Quigley
Kudos to the NBA for continuing to provide entertainment for the masses during a very difficult time. Obviously everyone would rather watch a real game now, but that’s impossible. Putting together an actual athletic competition among the players is the next best thing, and will be a distraction for the millions of people who are forced to remain in their homes to help curb the spread of the virus. The HORSE competition will also help in that regard, because State Farm plans to donate more than $ 200,000 on behalf of the participants to charity activities that focus on coronavirus response efforts.
