Hanging cleats for good seems to be a choice for Devonta Freeman.
Report by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network veterans who are retiring will consider retirement if suitable options do not appear before the season.
Rapoport notes that 28-year-old Florida State products are far more likely to receive the best available offer than retirement.
A native of Miami, Freeman has spent the last six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, surpassing the 1,000 yard mark on two occasions – in 2015 and 2016, the years in which he was selected for the Pro Bowl.
He appeared in 14 games for the Falcons, rushing for 656 yards on 156 carry with two goals. He added another 410 meters received with four additional TDs.
Reunion with the Falcons became impossible with Todd Gurley’s arrival at a free agent.
Freeman spoke to the Seattle Seahawks last week, but the team then chose to recruit veterans Carlos Hyde.
